Rowan County Jail Mugshots Overview

Where to Find Rowan County Booking Photos

If neither route shows the image, the next step is a public-records request through Rowan County with the Sheriff's Office selected, not a commercial mugshot site.

Are Rowan County Jail Mugshots Public Record?
North Carolina does not have a blanket rule that suppresses every pre-conviction booking photo from public access. The stronger plain-English rule is narrower: booking photographs are created under criminal-procedure authority and may be public records or releasable law-enforcement information depending on the context, while investigative-record exceptions can still limit disclosure. Rowan already publishes some jail and recent-arrest images through official P2C routes when the Sheriff's Office elects to display them.

Mugshot Roster Retention
Rowan research did not locate an official retention or age-off period for P2C booking photos. The inmate catalog is best understood as a current county-jail custody tool, while the recent-arrests route is a recent arrest display. A photo may stop appearing online after release, after a record is no longer in the displayed recent-arrest set, after a legal update, or because the Sheriff's Office changes what P2C exposes. A missing image does not prove that no booking photograph exists.
What is and isn't public: The public may be able to see P2C images, names, age, race, sex, height, weight, arrest date, primary charge, agency fields, holding facility, and release information when Rowan publishes those fields. Date of birth and bond amount are not shown in Rowan's public P2C settings. Investigative records, sealed records, body-camera footage, and some internal jail records may require a different legal process or may be withheld under an exception.
Request Rowan County Booking Photos
If a Rowan booking photo is not visible on P2C, use the county public-records process. Mugshot Removal and Expunction Caveats
No Rowan County source reviewed promises automatic P2C photo removal after dismissal, acquittal, or expunction. North Carolina expunction statutes can clear eligible public record entries after a court order, but that does not mean every copied image disappears from every place on the internet. Piedmont Correctional Institution is in Salisbury, but it is a North Carolina Department of Adult Correction state prison, not a Rowan County jail. It expressly does not include county jail information, so a Rowan P2C mugshot search and an NCDAC offender search answer different questions.
Federal and immigration custody are also separate.
